Sunday, August 28-- South Coast Classic, first round at Buenaventura GC, Ventura, 10:30 a.m.

 Vaqueros sixth on opening day

 SBCC opened the women’s golf season on Sunday by shooting 355 in the South Coast Classic at Buenaventura GC in Ventura. The Vaqueros are in sixth place in the eight-team event after one round. Saddleback is first at 313, 15 shots ahead of Canyons..
 Former Dos Pueblos High star Nicole Bullemer led SBCC with an 83 and Kurumi Ando shot 87.
 
 “It’s a new team and we were pretty nervous,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “We’re inexperienced but there’s a lot of upside. This is a good group with a lot of talent. We just didn’t show it today.
 The final round will be played Monday morning, along with the first WSC match.

Bullemer fires 75 for fourth in tourney
Vaqueros take fifth in Classic, second in WSC No. 1  

 
Five players improved their scores for SBCC on Monday and the women’s golf team took fifth place in the South Coast Classic at Olivas Links in Ventura.
 The Vaqueros shaved 22 shots off their first-round score with a 333 that was 13 strokes behind tourney winner Saddleback. SBCC finished at 688 while Saddleback’s 36-hole total was 633.
 Freshman Nicole Bullemer fired a 3-over 75 to lead the Vaqueros. Her two-day score of 158 was good for fourth place. Anna Samson turned in an 84 on Monday while Lise Andersen shot 86.
 WSC meet No. 1 was also held Monday and Canyons finished first at 329 with SBCC close behind at 333. Bullemer was the medalist of the five-team WSC event.
 “We were pretty frustrated (on Sunday) and we set a goal to improve by 5-10 shots each,“ noted coach Chuck Melendez. “It was a vast improvement and we were a lot closer to the winning score.“ 

 


Friday, Sept. 3 -- Cactus Classic, first round at Desert Canyons Resort, Palm Springs, 7 a.m.

Bullemer, Vaqueros post season bests
 Freshman shoots 74; SBCC third at Cactus Classic

 On a hot day in the desert, SBCC and its top women’s golfer, Nicole Bullemer, both recorded season bests Friday in the first round of the Cactus Classic in Palm Springs.
 SBCC shot 326 at Indian Canyons Resort, good for third place behind Mt. San Jacinto (316) and Bakersfield (320). Bullemer, a former Dos Pueblos High standout, finished at 2-over 74 and is tied for second, four shots behind the leader.
 Emily Wisma turned in an 81 for the Vaqueros and Anna Samson shot 82.
 “It was very hot today, about 110 degrees at the end of the round,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We shot our best score but we still have a tremendous amount of room for improvement. Our goal is to make up those 10 strokes and win the tournament..“


Saturday, Sept. 4 -- Cactus Classic, final rond at Desert Canyons Resort, Palm Springs, 7 a.m.

Bullemer, Vaqueros take third at Cactus Classic

 It was another scorching day at the Cactus Classic women’s golf tournament in Palm Springs on Saturday and SBCC’s Nicole Bullemer beat the heat with a 4-over-par 76 that earned her third place in the 36-hole event. Her two-day total of 150 in 115-degree heat at Indian Canyons Resort was eight shots behind the winner, Cindy Yang of Mt. San Jacinto.
 Bakersfield rallied to beat Mt. San Jacinto 635-639 with the Vaqueros taking third at 651. Anna Samson and Emily Wisma finished at 164 for SBCC, which shot 325 on Saturday.
 “We shot some pretty decent scores in hot conditions,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “Our goal was to average 80 today and only missed that by five shots. This is an extremely intelligent group of ladies with a lot of talent. We just need to gain experience.”
 The Vaqueros will host WSC No. 2 on Sept. 13 at the Santa Barbara Golf Club .

Bullemer claims second straight WSC title
    Ex-DP star shoots 75 at SBGC; Vaqueros finish third

 Nicole Bullemer is batting 1.000 in the Western State Conference.
 The freshman from SBCC shot a 3-over-par 75 on Monday in WSC No. 2 at the Santa Barbara Golf Club to capture medalist honors for the second time. Bullemer, a former star at Dos Pueblos High, had five birdies on the front side.
 Canyons shot 315 and won the five-school match to improve to 8-0. Bakersfield was second at 326 while the Vaqueros took third at 336. Nicole Denny shot 83 for Santa Barbara, which is tied for second at 5-3.
 “It was a tough day,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “There weren‘t a whole lot of happy faces. Sometimes the game of golf can tear your heart out. We’re still a good team and I know we’ll bounce back.”
 “I‘m happy for Nicole (Bullemer). She‘s an outstanding athlete and maybe a better person.”



Monday, Sept. 20 -- WSC No. 3, hosted by Glendale at Oakmont CC, 10 a.m.

Vaqueros are fourth at WSC No. 3
 
Denny leads SBCC with an 85 at Oakmont

 The third WSC match wasn’t memorable for the SBCC women’s golf team.
 Nicole Denny shot 85 on Monday at Oakmont CC in Glendale and the Vaqueros placed fourth in the five-team field at 351. Canyons won its third straight title with a 327.
 Kurumi Ando shot 85 and Nicole Bullemer had an 88 for Santa Barbara, which is third in the WSC with a 6-6 record.
 “It was another tough day, the course took its toll on us,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “We had a number of players doing very well at the start and then we had some blowup holes.
 “I’m very happy with our work ethic and I still think this is a good group. Hopefully, we can turn things around and start competing.”
 The Vaqueros will be at home for WSC No. 4, which is set for Monday at The Alisal River Course in Solvang.

 Bullemer, Wisma shoot 84s on hot day
Vaqueros are third in WSC No. 4, played in 106-degree heat

 SBCC showed great consistency on Monday in scorching heat at WSC No. 4 on the Alisal River Course in Solvang.
 Nicole Bullemer and Emily Wisma led the Vaquero golfers with 84s and Nicole Denny shot 85 in 100-plus temperatures. All six SBCC players were within six shots of each other, leading to a third-place finish at 340 behind Canyons (323) and Bakersfield (331).
 The Vaqueros finished two strokes ahead of Glendale and remained in third place in the conference with an 8-8 record.
 “We played a little better,“ said coach Chuck Melendez. “The heat was a real barrier. It scrambled everyone’s brain.
 ";;;;;We’re in a real strong conference and we’re starting to get more of our scores in the 80s. Hopefully, we’ll get a few in the 70s and then we’ll really be competitive.”
 The Vaqueros will play in the North-South Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Morro Bay GC.

Bullemer fires 75 in first round of Classic
 SBCC in fourth place, just six strokes behind the leader

 Nicole Bullemer carded a 3-over-par 75 on Sunday, leading SBCC to fourth place after one round of the North-South Classic women’s golf tournament at Morro Bay Golf Course.
 The Vaqueros shot 326 and trail co-leaders Bakersfield and Sacramento City by just six shots in the 12-team field. Canyons is third at 321.
 Bullemer, a former Dos Pueblos High standout, is in third place, one shot behind co-leaders Melea Miller of Bakersfield and Kayla Riede of Sacramento. Nicole Denny shot 82 for Santa Barbara and Anna Samson had an 83
 “We played well early, then lost some strokes late,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We played with more confidence. We’re getting better, slowly but surely.”
 The final round will take place Monday, starting at 8:30 a.m.

Vaqueros fourth in North-South Classic
  
Denny shoots 80; Canyons claims title

 Nicole Denny shot 80 on Monday and Emila Wisma had an 82 as SBCC took fourth in the North-South Classic women’s golf tournament at Morro Bay GC.
 The Vaqueros shot 332 and finished with a 36-hole total of 658. Canyons, who’s unbeaten in WSC play, won the 12-team tourney with a sizzling 304 (76.0 average) and a 625 total. The Cougars beat defending state champion Sacramento City by eight shots and Bakersfield by 17.
 Kayla Riede of Sacramento was the medalist with rounds of 74 and 73 for a 3-over 147.
 Vaquero freshman Nicole Bullemer (75-85) finished ninth at 160.
 “We hung with the some of the best teams in the state,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez, the tournament director. “It was a good experience for our team.”

Vaqueros are third in WSC No. 5
 
Bullemer leads balanced attack with 80

 Nicole Bullemer shot 80 on Monday, leading the SBCC women’s golf team to a third-place finish in WSC No. 5 at par-73 Marshall Canyon GC in La Verne. Emily Wisma turned in an 83 on a day when the four scoring players were all between 80 and 88.
 Canyons and Glendale tied for first at 327, followed by the Vaqueros at 335. The Cougars claimed first place, based on the fifth-player tiebreaker. They’re unbeaten at 20-0 with Bakersfield second at 12-8 and the Vaqueros third (10-8).
 Tammy Panich of Glendale fired a 2-under 71 to earn medalist honors.
 “There’s a lot of good teams in our conference,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “It’s more competitive than I’ve ever seen. We played pretty well, but as it’s been all year, we had some big holes that hurt us.”

It’s a familiar finish at WSC No. 6
 
Vaqueros take third for fourth time this year

 The date and course were different for SBCC on Monday but the result was the same as the Vaqueros placed third in WSC No. 6 at Robinson Ranch in Canyon Country.
 It was the third straight third-place showing and the fourth overall for the Vaqueros, who were led by Nicole Bullemer (86), Emily Wisma (88) and Nicole Denny (89).
 Canyons (24-0) won its sixth straight WSC meet title with a 323. Bakersfield (15-9) was second at 335, followed by the Vaqueros (12-12) at 349.
 “It was another tough course and I knew it would be tough to keep all our scores in the 80s,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “There’s a few weeks left and hopefully we can get something going.”
 WSC No. 7 will take place on Monday at Riverlakes Ranch in Bakersfield. The WSC Finals (Meets 8 and 9) will be held Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at Olivas Links in Ventura and SBCC could earn a regional berth by being the lowest scoring team besides the regular-season champion.

Bullemer leads Vaqueros to third
 Nicole Bullemer shot 80 on Monday and Anna Samson carded an 82, guiding the SBCC women’s golf squad to a third-place finish in WSC No. 7 at Riverlakes GC in Bakersfield.
 Canyons won the match with 321 strokes to clinch the WSC season title and a regional playoff berth. Bakersfield was second at 331, followed by the Vaqueros at 337.
 Dee Ray of Bakersfield was the medalist at even-par 72.
 “It was a windy day and pretty cold,“ said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez, whose team is third in the WSC standings at 14-14. “Overall I was pleased with our effort but all pistons still aren’t firing. We need to get it done in the WSC Finals.”
 The conference finals, which count as WSC matches 8 and 9, will take place on Sunday and Monday at Olivas Links in Ventura. SBCC could earn a regional berth by posting the lowest 36-hole score besides Canyons.

Vaqueros go low at WSC Finals
Bullemer, Denny, Wisma all in 70s in first round

 
It was no trick on Halloween as SBCC treated itself to the lowest women’s golf score in conference play in the WSC Finals at Olivas Links in Ventura.
 
Nicole Bullemer and Nicole Denny shot 78s on Sunday, Emily Wisma 79 and Lise Andersen 84 for the Vaqueros, who produced a 319 to tie Bakersfield for first place after one round.
 
Denny, Wisma and Anderson all fired season lows.
 
Bakersfield took first place with a lower 5th-player score. WSC champion Canyons is third at 326 in the match which also served as WSC No. 8. The Cougars (30-2) suffered their first two conference losses of the season.
 
SBCC (17-15) can earn a Southern Cal Regional berth by beating Bakersfield in Monday’s final round, which starts at 7 a.m.
 
“It was a very good day,“ said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “That‘s the best we‘ve played all year and it came at the perfect time. I was real proud of our effort.
 
“We need to repeat the performance or go a little lower on Monday.”

Vaqueros miss out on regional berth
  Bullemer, Denny, Wisma qualify as individuals

 SBCC couldn’t match the magic from Halloween in Monday’s final round of the WSC Championships and came up short in a bid for a Southern Cal Regional women’s golf berth.
 
Nicole Bullemer, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, shot a 3-over 75 at Olivas Links in Ventura, missing her season best by a stroke. Emily Wisma turned in an 81 for the Vaqueros and Nicole Denny shot 88.
 
Bullemer and Denny were named to the All-WSC squad. All three SBCC players earned individual spots in the Southern Cal Regional on Sunday and Monday at the Alisal River Course in Solvang.
 
Tammy Panich of Glendale earned medalist honors with a 2-under 70 and was named WSC Player of the Year.
 
After tying Bakersfield at 319 on Sunday, the Vaqueros (17-15) shot 18 strokes higher and the Renegades matched their 319 to win WSC No. 9. Bakersfield and Canyons tied on Monday but the Renegades got the win based on a lower fifth-player score.
 
Canyons won the WSC championship with a 33-3 record and Bakersfield (26-10) earned the second spot in the regional by beating the Vaqueros in the 36-hole finals 638-656..
 
“We couldn’t match our performance from Sunday,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “Nicole and Emily played well but we kind of slipped after that.
 
“This was a great group to work with and I can’t say enough about their character.”

        Bullemer in sixth place after 78
Irvine Valley leads after 1st round of So Cal Championships

 
 Nicole Bullemer of SBCC opened with a 78 on Sunday in the Southern Cal Championships at the Alisal River Course in Solvang.
 The freshman from Dos Pueblos High is in sixth place after one round and in good position to advance to the State Championships, set for Nov. 15-16 at Los Serranos CC in Chino Hills.
 The top two teams and 12 individuals will qualify for state.
 Nicole Rivera fired a 3-under 69 to guide Irvine Valley into first place at 310. Canyons, the WSC champion, is second in the six-team field at 325, followed by Bakersfield (333).
 SBCC’s Emily Wisma shot 84 and Nicole Denny had a 90.


Monday, Nov. 8 -- Southern Cal Regional, final round at Alisal River, Solvang, 8:30 a.m.

Bullemer takes eighth in Southern Cal

 SBCC’s Nicole Bullemer shot 82 in Monday’s final round of the Southern Cal Championships and took eighth in a field of 44 players at the par-72 Alisal River Course in Solvang.
 The freshman was one of 12 individual qualifiers for the Women’s Golf State Finals on Monday and Tuesday at Los Serranos CC in Chino Hills.
 Irvine Valley had the low score on Monday (322) and claimed the team title with 632 strokes. Canyons also qualified for state with a 653. Mt. San Jacinto was third at 671 and Bakersfield took fourth at 676.
 Nicole Rivera of Irvine Valley was named Player of the Year after winning medalist honors (69-76--145). Tina Yang (71-80) of Mt. San Jacinto tied for second at 151 with Tammy Panich of Glendale and Malea Miller of Bakersfield. Yang won a scorecard playoff for second and Panich was third.
 Emily Wisma of SBCC shot 89 for a 36-hole total of 173 while Nicole Denny shot 90 for the second straight day.
 “It was very windy and the conditions were tough,“ said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “Nicole (Bullemer) kept it together and kept her focus on advancing to the state championships.”

Bullemer is 13th after first round of State

 Freshman Nicole Bullemer shot 85 for SBCC on Monday at the State Community College Women’s Golf Championships, good for 13th place in a field of 39.
 Tammy Panich of Glendale and Kayle Riede of Sacramento City shot 76 to share the lead after one round at par-74 Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.
 Canyons turned in a 330 and holds a slim lead over defending champion Sacramento City (333) and Irvine Valley (335) in the four-team field.

Bullemer shoots 79 to take 10th in State

 SBCC’s Nicole Bullemer turned in a 5-over-par 79 on Tuesday to tie for 10th at the State Community College Women’s Golf Championships. Bullemer, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, posted a 36-hole total of 164 on the north course at Los Serranos CC in Chino Hills.
 
“It was a lot of fun watching Nicole,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “She was rolling her putter well. She was very determined and gave a great effort today.”
 
Bullemer shaved six strokes off her first-round score and came up four spots shy of earning all-state honors.

Irvine Valley lowered its first-round score by 20 shots and captured its first state championship by four shots over Canyons (650-654).
