Welcome
What We Do
The mission of the Orientation program at Santa Barbara City College is to provide students with information about Santa
Barbara City College's educational programs, support services, college facilities, student life and students' rights and
responsibilities.
Options for Orientation for different categories of students can be found by clicking on the links in the left-hand menu
on this page. Separate from the college orientation, some departments and programs also require their own orientation as a condition of enrollment or participation.
All new students are strongly encouraged to participate in college orientation. However, college orientation is required for new students who have never been to college or only attended while in high school (first-time college students) and have an Educational Goal on their SBCC application of:
- Associate Degree, or
- Transfer to a four-year institution, or
- Basic English/Math/Reading skills
or
- Students with a Transfer Plan to a four year college or university on their SBCC application.
For students enrolling Summer or Fall 2010, orientation options in addition to the online orientation program may be available and will be posted beginning February 2010.
We enroll different types of students at different times of the year and we offer a variety of orientation methods to meet the needs of our students. Listed below are several different "types" of students. Find the description that best matches you and choose one of the recommended college orientation options. Scroll further down the page for descriptions of the orientation options. Please note that some options are available only for fall semester and/or for local students:
