*If these courses have been completed at another college, a Prerequisite Challenge Form A must be submitted to determine equivalency to SBCC courses. Print the form and read the instructions carefully at http://www.sbcc.edu/prerequisitepolicy For English coursework, include the course description, the course description of literature courses and the general education requirements for the college attended.

A Health Technologies counselor can determine if courses taken at other colleges will meet SBCC pre-requisites and requirements for graduation, and assist you in planning your SBCC coursework. You must have a SBCC application on file to meet with a Counselor in person, online or by phone. To speak to a Health Technologies Counselor, contact the Academic Counseling Center at 805-965-0581, ext 2285. You may also email Lead Health Technologies Counselor, Gwyer Schuyler, schuyler@sbcc.edu, with specific questions.

It is advised that all prospective applicants make an appointment with an academic counselor at SBCC.

II.  APPLICATION PROCESS

If you have never attended Santa Barbara City College, you must submit an SBCC Application; apply online at www.sbcc.edu/apply or in the Admissions Office at SBCC.

After college application is submitted, you must submit the following to:

SBCC Health Technologies Office, 721 Cliff Dr, Santa Barbara, CA 93109

  1. Completed Associate Degree Nursing application (attached).
  2. Official high school transcript (in the original sealed enveloped) or proof of GED, unless you have an AA/AS or BA/BS from a regionally accredited US institution.
  3. Official transcripts (in the original sealed enveloped) from all colleges attended other than SBCC  OR a print-out from your SBCC Pipeline account showing that all official transcripts have been received. http://www.sbcc.edu/admissions/files/IncomingTranscriptsReceived.pdf
  4. International students only: An official evaluation report of high school and college coursework is required. Two acceptable evaluation agencies are International Research Foundation, Inc., (http://www.ierf.org) or World Education Services, Inc. (http://www.wes.org). For high school coursework, a general report is needed showing equivalency to high school graduation in the U.S. For college coursework, a detailed, course-by-course evaluation with grades is required.
  5. For the LVN-RN program, copy of a current LVN license.

~Incomplete applications will be returned to the student~

III. EVALUATION OF PRE-REQUISITES & CUT SCORE

Coursework from other colleges will be evaluated for equivalency to SBCC prerequisite courses. Due to the volume of applications received, the results of the evaluation can take up to three  months.

How Applicant Transcripts will be Evaluated

Toward Admission to the SBCC ADN Program

The Cut Score is obtained using a formula designed by researchers in the California Community College Chancellor’s Office which predicts student success in two year RN programs.  In other words, a student with a Cut Score of 89 would have an 89% predicted chance of success in the RN program.  The formula does not take into account motivation, dedication to studies and life experiences.

Those factors  the Chancellor’s office found to have the most influence on student success include:

  1. Overall College GPA
  2. College GPA in the Core Sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology)
  3. College GPA in English
  4. Any repeats in the Core Sciences (includes W’s, D’s, or F’s)

The SBCC ADN Program has determined that applicants must get a Cut Score of 72% or higher to be placed on the wait list.

The cut score of 72% was arrived at by the following student profile:

Overall College GPA

College GPA in Core Sciences

College GPA in

Withdrawals or Repeats in Core Sciences

Failure to respond will result in removal from the wait list.
