Friday, Dec. 2 -- State semifinal at Cosumnes River: Hartnell (#1 North) def. SBCC (#2 South) 3-0 Final record: 18-2-4
Vaqueros fall 3-0 in State semifinal
Stanley gets red card in 57th minute
Hartnell scored twice in the first 21 minutes on Friday afternoon and went on to
bleat SBCC 3-0 in the Community College State Men’s Soccer semifinals at Cosumnes
River in Sacramento.
The Vaqueros, the No. 2 seed in the South, had their nine-game win streak snapped
and finished at 18-2-4. It was the first time SBCC has been shut out this year and
the first time it has allowed three goals.
“We didn’t look good, we just couldn’t get our free kicks going,” said sophomore
Jordan Tabor. “They got off to a quick start. We still had a chance at halftime (when
they trailed 2-0) because we had the wind.
"We put in a great effort all year. We just came up short today."
Mt. San Antonio, the No. 1 seed in the South, beat City College of San Francisco
2-0 to advance to the Sunday’s final against Hartnell (19-2-3). The Mounties (21-0-3)
are seeking their third straight title.
Duran Stanley, the Vaqueros’ top scorer with 13 goals, received his second yellow
card and an automatic ejection in the 57th minute after a collision with John Ramirez.
Ivan Campos put Hartnell up 1-0 on a free kick in the eighth minute and Max Estrada
scored on a rebound in the 21st minute. Estrada got his second goal in the 73rd minute when the Vaqueros were a man down. SBCC was outshot 17-5 and Hartnell had a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.
“It was very frustrating,” said defender Roberto Santana. “Sometimes it’s not your
day. You have to give their team respect, they’re here for a reason.
“We lacked a bit of confidence today. Once that first goal went in, it was a psychological
killer. I’m proud of our team, it was a great year for us.”
Hartnell peppered the SBCC net with six shots on goal in the second half. Keeper
Yonha Adrabi made eight saves in the game. Tabor kept a ball out of the net with a
bicycle kick in the 28th minute and Adrabi made back-to-back saves on two close-range
shots with two minutes left in the first half.
“We allowed them too much space early on and we didn’t seem to be focused,” said
Vaquero coach John Sisterson. “We gave away a sloppy free kick and they punished us
for it.
“It’s tough to come back against a good team. We never got our rhythm going. It was
harsh to lose Duran. I thought both players were going for a 50-50 ball."
The loss was the first in 11 road games this year (8-1-2).
“It’s been a great year, we won the (WSC) championship," Sisterson concluded. "It
was important to get to the Final Four. This was a great experience and now we know
what it takes. We'll be back next year and go one step further.”
Saturday, Nov. 26 -- Southern Cal Regional Finals: #3 SBCC 2, #7 Golden West 0, OT Record: 18-1-4
Vaqueros earn Final Four berth
Stanley, Perez get OT goals in 2-0 shutout
Duran Stanley snapped a scoreless tie in the 100th minute and Rodrigo Perez found the net in the 113th minute on Saturday night at La Playa Stadium as SBCC blanked Golden West 2-0 in overtime
to earn a spot in the State Final Four for men’s soccer.
The third-seeded Vaqueros won for the ninth straight time to improve to 18-1-4. They’re
10-1-2 at home this year. Golden West, the No. 7 seed, finishes at 13-6-4.
SBCC will be making its fifth trip to the Final Four and first since 1998. The Vaqueros
will take on Hartnell, the No. 1 seed from the North with an 18-2-3 record, on Friday
in a 2 p.m. match at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.
“This is an unbelievable feeling,” said Perez, a sophomore from Dos Pueblos High.
“All the hard work for the season came down to this moment.
“Golden West is a tough team. We stuck it out and you could see we were more fit
in the overtime.
In the 100th minute of the Southern Cal Finals mach, Jordan Tabor boomed a 48-yard free kick from
the right side and the ball caromed off a player to Stanley, who beat the keeper from
close range. Stanley, who leads the team with 13 goals, assisted on the second goal
with a nice cross just a few feet from the right end line.
“We have a winning attitude and I’m expecting us to do well in the Final Four,” said
Stanley, who has four goals in three playoff wins. “I had a feeling the ball would
come to me (on his goal). Our team is amazing. We’ve worked hard for this.
“I can’t wait to go to the Final Four and bring the championship back here.
Santa Barbara outshot the visitors 22-12, including 12-2 in shots on goal. Roberto
Santana drilled a header in the ninth minute that was saved off the line by a defender.
“I’m delighted for the boys,” said fifth-year coach John Sisterson. “They keep finding
a way.
“Golden West is a good team. But they‘re only as good as you allow them to be. In
the second half, we closed them down and started to get people forward quicker. That
made the difference.”
Yonha Adrabi made a diving save of a shot in the second minute -- the Rusters’ only
shot on goal in the first 117 minutes. It was the seventh shutout for Adrabi and the
10th on the year for the Vaqueros.
“Our defense has been getting better all year,” said Santana, a sophomore defender
from Santa Barbara High who was the MVP of the WSC. “We’ve done a great job in the
playoffs.”
The Vaqueros have outscored their opponents 23-4 during their nine-game win streak
with six shutouts. They’re 15-0-1 in their last 16 matches.
Tuesday, Nov. 22 -- Southern Cal Regional, second round: Rio Hondo at SBCC, 7 p.m. #3 SBCC 3, #6 Rio Hondo 0 Record: 17-1-4
Stanley scores twice in 3-0 win
Tabor adds PK in second-round triumph
Duran Stanley did it all on Tuesday night at La Playa Stadium, scoring a pair of
goals and drawing a penalty kick in SBCC’s 3-0 shutout of Rio Hondo in the second
round of the Southern Cal Regional men’s soccer playoffs.
Stanley, a freshman from Honduras who played for Santa Barbara High a few years ago,
opened the scoring in the 19th minute. He intercepted a pass and took off on a breakaway up the right side, dribbled
around the goalie and blasted in a 15-yard shot.
“I read the defense really well and I knew he was going to pass the ball back,” said
Stanley, who leads the team with 12 goals. “I knew with my quickness I’d be able to
get to the ball.”
The third-seeded Vaqueros extended their win streak to eight and improved to 17-1-4.
They’re 14-0-1 in their last 15. SBCC is also tough at home with a 9-1-2 record this
year and 23-2-3 in its last 28.
The Vaqueros will host No. 7 Golden West on Saturday at 7 p.m. with a trip to the
State Final Four on the line. The Rustlers (13-5-4) upset No. 2 Cerritos 1-0 on Tuesday.
In the 52nd minute, Stanley ran onto a through ball from Andres Gomez and was tackled by the
keeper. Jordan Tabor drilled the penalty kick into the lower right for a 2-0 lead.
“I knew the goalie was going to do that,” said Stanley. “I have 10 PKs on the season.
I’m creative about that. I know he’s going to come out, so I try to slip the ball
a little farther away. Our whole team stepped it up tonight.”
In the 90th minute, Tabor delivered a free kick from 52 yards and Stanley jumped right next to
the goalie. The keeper dropped the ball right at the feet of Stanley, who popped it
in for the final goal.
“Duran is a great asset, he’s a handful for opposing defenses,” said coach John Sisterson.
“Our defense played well, all the boys played well.”
Yonha Adrabi recorded his sixth shutout with solid defensive help from WSC MVP Roberto
Santana and Ricardo Vazquez.
Saturday, Nov. 19 -- Southern Cal Regional: L.A. Harbor vs. SBCC at Westmont, 11 a.m. #3 seed SBCC 2, #14 L.A. Harbor 1 Record: 16-1-4
Stanley’s late goal lifts Vaqueros
Tabor has goal, assist in 2-1 playoff win
Duran Stanley redirected a free kick by Jordan Tabor into the goal in the 83rd minute on Saturday, sparking SBCC to a 2-1 victory over L.A. Harbor in the opening
round of the Southern Cal Regional men’s soccer playoffs at Westmont College.
The Seahawks (7-8-7) had tied the game four minutes earlier on a goal by Justin Coleman.
Tabor, a sophomore from England, gave the third-seeded Vaqueros (16-1-4) a 1-0 lead
in the last minute of the first half. He boomed a 50-yard free kick with his left
foot into the left side of the net.
“We were watching the goalie in practice and thought his hands weren’t the best and
he didn’t have much of a jump,” said Tabor. “I thought if we put it on him, then something
might happen. Lucky enough, it went straight in.”
It was the seventh straight win for SBCC, which is 13-0-1 in its last 14 games.
Goalie Yonha Adrabi came up with a couple of big saves to preserve the victory
“It was a little bit scrappy,” said SBCC coach John Sisterson. “The surface didn’t
suit us. It’s a grass field (they normally play on artificial turf) and the ball was
bobbling about.
“I’m pleased to get through with a win. Duran worked hard to get that free kick and
Jordan served a great ball in (for the winning goal).”
Things got a little chippy in the closing minutes with several yellow cards and two
red cards. SBCC forward Rodrigo Perez received a red card and will have to sit out
the second-round game.
Santa Barbara will host No. 6 Rio Hondo on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Roadrunners beat
Santa Ana 3-2 on Saturday.
SBCC and Rio Hondo played to a 1-1 tie on Sept. 20 in Whittier.
Thursday, Nov. 10 -- Citrus at SBCC, 7 p.m. #7 SBCC 1, Citrus 0 Records: 15-1-4, 12-1-1 (WSC champs)
Vaqueros claim WSC crown

WSC title
The Vaqueros, ranked No. 4 in Southern Cal and No. 7 in the state, beat Citrus at

crown in the last four years and ninth overall.
SBCC capped the regular season with six straight wins to to finish at 15-1-4. Citrus
fell to 4-11-5.
“Hugo (Pizano, an assistant coach) and some of the guys said the keeper was off the
line quite a bit, so I thought I’d have a shot and lucky enough, it went in,” said
Tabor, after his ninth goal. “This is great for our sophomores.
“There were times when things haven’t gone too well but we dug in the whole season.
We haven’t played our best football. We have a good spirit now and I’m looking forward
to the playoffs.”
The Vaqueros will open the Southern Cal playoffs at home on Saturday, Nov. 19.
SBCC outshot the visitors 10-1 in the first half and 21-7 for the game.
Tabor, a freshman midfielder from England, leads the team in scoring with 27 points.
He scored the game-winner with his left foot from the left side, just in front of
his team’s bench.
“Jordan is fairly accurate,” said coach John Sisterson after the players doused him
with a water shower to celebrate. “Those are the kind of goals that win games.“
And conference titles.
“The boys deserved the title,” he added. “I thought we should have won it last year
(when Oxnard passed them on the last day). We’ve worked hard this year and only lost
one game.”
Sisterson will try to secure another WSC title on Friday when his women’s team travels
to winless West L.A. If the Vaqueros win, they’ll complete an 11-1 season and earn
a share of their first WSC championship.
It would also mark the first time that one school has captured men’s and women’s
WSC soccer crowns in the same year.
Tuesday, Nov. 8 -- SBCC vs. L.A. Mission at L.A. Pierce, Woodland Hills, 3 p.m. #8 SBCC 3, Mission 2 Records: 14-1-4, 11-1-1 (1st place)

SBCC to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over L.A. Mission and at least a share of the

on Mission’s field.

“We had to step it up and we really executed in the second half,” said Perez, a former
Dos Pueblos High standout. “When Duran goes in the air, I know it might come to me,
so I try to look for the second ball. Luckily the keeper was out of place.”

we had to go up there and get a result and get the three points. We were happy to
do that.
“We took our goals well and could have had a couple more. We’ve really got to tighten
up (on defense) on these small, grass fields away from home.”

SBCC dominates second half but falls in WSC debut
Oxnard built a 2-0 lead on Sigifredo Torres’ goal in the third minute of the second
half and hung on to beat SBCC 2-1 in a WSC opener at La Playa Stadium.
The Vaqueros (3-1-3, 0-1-0), ranked No. 9 in the nation, suffered their first loss
while the Condors, rated No. 4 in Southern Cal, won for the fourth straight time to
improve to 5-1-2.
Urbano Ceteno put the visitors ahead with a curving shot in the 32nd minute. SBCC was outshot 6-3 in the first half but got its offense going with a 13-3
shot advantage in the last 45 minutes.
Efrain Olvera headed in a corner kick by Jordan Tabor in the 85th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.
“The boys worked hard to get back in the game,” said coach John Sisterson. “Unfortunately,
the ball just didn’t run right for us. We had a couple of opportunities that we normally
would have put in the back in the net.
“You’re always disappointed when you don’t win but we’ve got a lot to build on. Championships
are not won or lost in the first game of the season. We’ve still got 13 games to play
and we‘ll build on that.”

Tabor gets equalizer on PK in 88th minute
Jordan Tabor converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute on Tuesday afternoon to help SBCC earn a 1-1 tie with Rio Hondo at Whittier.
Duran Stanley was fouled in the box, leading to the third PK of the year by Tabor,
a freshman from England.
The Vaqueros, ranked No. 5 in Southern Cal and No. 9 in the nation, went unbeaten
in nonconference play (3-0-3) for the first time in John Sisterson’s five years as
head coach.
Rio Hondo (1-2-3) scored in the 60th minute of a game that Sisterson said his team dominated. “It looked like we would
win easily,” he stated. “Stanley was pulled down a few times in the (penalty) box
and we should have had four or five PKs.
“We outshot them and we looked very comfortable. Our forwards, Stanley and Rodrigo
Perez, were a handful.”
Perez hit a hard shot that caromed off the crossbar in the first half.

Stanley gets game-winner in first college game
Duran Stanley scored on a header in the 72nd minute Friday night, lifting SBCC to a 2-1 victory over L.A. Harbor in Wilmington.
It was the first college appearance for Stanley, a freshman from Santa Barbara High.
Andres Gomez set up Stanley’s game-winner with a nice pass from the left side.
Jordan Tabor opened the scoring for the Vaqueros (3-0-2) with a penalty kick in the
31st minute after Rodrigo Perez was pulled down in the box. Harbor tied it in the 42nd minute.

Vaqueros tie Wolverines 1-1
Aguilar scores in final minute of 1st half
Peter Aguilar staked SBCC to a 1-0 lead with a left-footed blast from 23 yards on
Tuesday night but San Bernardino Valley scored early in the second half to earn a
1-1 tie in a battle of unbeaten teams at La Playa Stadium.
Aguilar, a sophomore from Santa Barbara High, took a short pass from Jordan Tabor
and beat the keeper to the near post in the 45th minute to put the Vaqueros (2-0-2) ahead. In the 54th minute, SBCC’s Roberto Santana headed out a corner kick by the visitors but it went
right to Kevin Real, who converted a 21-yard shot for the Wolverines (4-0-2).
SBCC, 15-1-3 in its last 19 at home, played an uneven second half. The Vaqueros were
outshot 5-3 in the final 45 minutes and 12-7 for the game.
“We should have created a lot more offensive chances,” said coach John Sisterson.
“We didn’t play as well as can. We were always chasing the game and we just couldn‘t
pass the ball.
“The pleasing thing was that we didn’t lose. We had four players who carried the
rest of the team.”
Sisterson singled out the play of Tabor, Santana, Rodrigo Perez and John-Joe Slater.
Goalie Yonha Adrabi made a couple of strong saves on consecutive shots in the 37th minute. Santana, a 6-2 sophomore defender from SBHS, drilled a header off the left
post in the 19th minute.
“It was very frustrating,” said Santana. “The guys didn’t come out mentally prepared.
… Tonight, the other team worked harder and you’re going to have those games.
“We just have to come out next game and step it up.”

Rodrigo Perez sparks Vaqueros
He has goal and assist in 2-0 shutout
Rodrigo Perez assisted on a first-half goal and scored in the second half to lead
SBCC to a 2-0 victory over Cypress on Friday night at La Playa Stadium.
Yonha Adrabi and the defense posted the first shutout of the year for the Vaqueros
(2-0-1), who are ranked 10th in the nation by the NSCAA. It was the 13th career shutout for Adrabi, who made his season debut.
Ramin Sepasi, a freshman from Sweden, scored his first goal of the year in the 11th minute after taking a pass from Rodrigo Perez. In the 67th minute, Santiago Perez (no relation) fired a header off the left post and Rodrigo
Perez headed in the rebound for his third goal.
“Ramen had a tremendous game at left back,” said coach John Sisterson. “He got forward,
defended well, overlapped well and he deserved the goal. He may have been the man
of the match.
“Rodrigo is a live wire and he really gives you something up front.”
SBCC outshot the Chargers 22-10 and had eight shots on goal. The Vaqueros are 15-1-2
in their last 18 home games.
“We did quite well, a real professional job,” Sisterson added. “We’re starting to
develop as a team and as a unit.”
Tuesday, Sept. 6 -- Taft at SBCC, 7 p.m. SBCC 1, Taft 1, tie Record: 1-0-1
Vaqueros tie Taft in home debut
Tabor’s PK in 49th minute evens score at 1-1
Jordan Tabor converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute and SBCC went on to tie
Taft 1-1 in its home opener on Tuesday at La Playa Stadium.
Andy Reyes got the Cougars (2-0-1) on the board in the last minute of the first half.
In the fourth minute of the second half, SBCC’s Rodrigo Perez was tripped in the box,
leading to the Tabor’s left-footed blast into the right corner -- his second goal
in two games.
The Vaqueros had chances to score in the 80th and 90th minutes but couldn’t find the net.
“The first half was disappointing,” said coach John Sisterson, whose team is 1-0-1.
“I think the guys thought after the (5-1) win at Sequoias, it was going to be a breeze.
Taft is a good team. They’re very competitive and we allowed them to play.
“We got after our guys at halftime and we made some adjustments. We played a lot
better in the second half. The PK was justified and I was just waiting for one of
our other opportunities to go in.”
Santa Barbara is 14-1-2 in its last 17 home games.
“It was a different game in the second half,” Sisterson stated. “We’ve got to learn
to start games like we started the second half.”
Perez stole the ball in the 18th minute and hit a rocket that barely skimmed over the crossbar. He had another chance
in the 46th minute, just minutes before he was pulled down in the box.
“We got caught on our heels in the first half,” said Perez, a former Dos Pueblos
High standout. “We had a great response in the second half. We were able to get on
them and pressure them.”

and Perez found the net three minutes later after taking a pass from Nikolai Littleton.
Perez, a sophomore midfielder from Dos Pueblos High, scored again in the 32nd minute
after stealing the ball. Kim Karlsson, a freshman from Sweden, made it 4-0 in the
35th minute on an assist from countryman Andres Gomez.
Sequoias spoiled the shutout in the 55th minute. Efrain Olvera completed the scoring
in the 74th minute on a 30-yard shot that was set up by Santiago Perez.
