Book Grants and Loans

Books Grants, Scholarships and Loans Administered by Financial Aid Office - SS210

These are giving out starting the first day of classes of each semester by visiting the Financial Aid Office in Student Services 210. All books must be purchased at the SBCC Bookstore under these programs.

Qualifications for Emergency Book Loans:

Student must have an unanticipated financial emergency (Advisors or Director will assess student’s situation)
Student must be enrolled full time (12 units or more)
Student has not received, or will not receive financial aid within 2 weeks
Student must have the ability to repay the loan within 30 days
Student must not currently owe SBCC any money in arrears
Student cannot have received an emergency loan or grant before
Student must not be receiving an EOPS Book Grant
Maximum Loan Amount: $250

Qualifications for Book Scholarships:

Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA from units earned at SBCC.
Student must be enrolled in six (6) or more units
Student must have unmet financial need
Student must not be receiving an EOPS Book Grant
Student must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Maximum Grant Amount: $250

Other Book Grants

EOPS (Extended Opportunities Programs and Services) is a comprehensive educational student support program that provides programs and services to assist EOPS eligible students with their academic success. Services include but are not limited to, tutorial support, academic counseling, peer mentoring, personal advising, and book grant assistance.

The Transfer Achievement Program is a support service for underrepresented students that include first generation, low-income, and ethnically underrepresented (i.e. African-American, Latino, Mexican-American, and Native-American/Alaskan Native). The program provides campus trips, book grants, and advisement/counseling to students on their transfer goals. Please visit the T.A.P. web page at http://www.sbcc.edu/tap for more information.

Friends of the Luria Library Textbook Scholarship

Thanks to the Friends, there are two $250 scholarships (for students taking 6-11 units) and thirteen $500 scholarships for students taking 12+ units).
The application will require you to provide basic demographic information, financial information, and two 250-word essays. All students with a demonstrated financial need are eligible, including international students.

What do you need to complete the application?
* financial records for last year (if under the age 24, you will need parental income information)
* time to write two 250-word essays (Please describe your need for this scholarship AND please describe what the Luria Library means to you)
