Medical Assistant Training Program
The SBCC Noncredit Medical Assistant Training Program consists of three courses offered over nine months each academic year from August to May. The courses consist of evening lecture and lab classes. There is also a daytime internship during the Spring term. The Program prepares students to work as entry-level Medical Assistants in medical offices and clinics.
The Administrative (Front Office) component includes:
- HIPAA and other legal regulations
- medical records
- patient reception
- appointment scheduling
Clinical (Back Office) instruction includes:
- infection control
- vital signs
- diagnostic tests
- assisting with primary/family care and specialties such as surgery, OB/GYN, and pediatrics
The internship provides students job readiness skills and hands-on experience as Medical Assistants in local medical clinics and offices. Under supervision, students will perform administrative and clinical procedures within the Medical Assistant Scope of Practice, preparing them for future employment.
Successful completion of all three program courses will grant students a School of Extended Learning Certificate of Completion.
Admission procedure: Individuals interested in the Medical Assistant Program must attend an Information Session scheduled each April (click here for information on this year's Information Session).
