What is DARS and how will it help me?
DARS, Degree Audit Reporting System, is a self-advising tool that greatly simplifies the preparation of student
transfer and graduation. It is an automated process for tracking a student's academic
progress toward completing an academic program and for Transfer General Education
requirements to the CSU or UC system. Currently only coursework from SBCC will be
included in your report. Transfer-In courses from other schools will be included in
the future.
DARS provides an easy-to-read tool for you to examine progress toward your major, and transfer goals following IGETC or CSU. You can use DARS reports and do some "major shopping" by looking at what degrees you may be closest to finishing or find a double major. It is an excellent tool for planning which courses you need to register for to complete your goals.
Do I still need to see an Academic Counselor?
Yes! The academic counselor will use the DARS report in the process of advising you
about your program of study and transfer plans. A Counselor can answer your questions
and you may have and advise you about your course substitutions and waivers that may
be needed. Some program courses must be approved by a counselor or department before
they can be included on your report.
