Academic Counseling Checklist

Welcome To SBCC! Review and complete this checklist of our most commonly asked questions. This checklist will help you if you’re a continuing SBCC or transferring from another school.

  • Course Planning Guide - Download a Course Planning Guide to get started.
    Please note HIT/CIM students must go to www.sbcc.edu/hit for Student Education Plans, Transcript Evaluations and academic counseling support.

  • Career Center - Undecided on a major? Our Career Center can help. Please visit the Career Center before scheduling an appointment with an Academic Counselor.

  • Schedule a Counseling Appointment- Continuing students may meet with an academic counselor at the front desk or byscheduling a same-day appointment in person during regular service hours. Please arrive as early as possible because appointments are limited and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may schedule a maximum of two same day appointments per semester.

  • Counseling Questions On-Line Form - Still have questions? Complete our On-Line Formand an Academic Counselor will respond within 3 to 5 business days.

  • New Student Advising - Strongly recommended for students transferring to SBCC from another institution.

  • Counseling Appointments - Schedule a same-day appointment. New transfer students are welcome to participate in our online advising sessions and may meet with an academic counselor at the front desk orin person during regular service hours. Appointments are limited and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. You must have your transcripts in order for us to advise you accurately.

  • Incoming Transcripts - Before new transfer students come to campus for a same day appointment check your Pipeline account to confirm that SBCC has received all outside college transcripts. If SBCC has not received all outside college transcripts, be sure to have official or unofficial transcripts with you at the time of the appointment.

  • Guidelines for First Semester Course Planning - Informed schedule planning and course-selection are essential to academic success. Check the Course Planning Guide for some helpful registration tips.
    Please note: HIT/CIM students must go to the HIT/CIM Website for Student Education Plans, Transcript Evaluations and Academic Counseling support.

  • Prerequisite Policy - Please note that official transcripts only can be used to fulfill prerequisites for courses such as English, math, biology, etc. If you plan to enroll in courses that require prerequisites (i.e. English, math, biology, chemistry, foreign language), please review the Prerequisite Policy carefully, as deadlines are strictly enforced. (link to prereq page - this is not a counseling area - it’s transcript eval office)

  • Student Success - Learn about SBCC programs, services, courses and resources available to ensure your personal and academic success.

  • Probation and DisQualification - Be proactive and learn the details of the SBCC policies for Academic Probation and Disqualification.

  • Student Success Seminar - Provides you with the information, tools, and resources you need to return to good academic standing and achieve your academic goals.
