Computers In Our Future (CIOF)

In response to the growing problem of inequity between technology "haves" and "have-nots" in today's society, the Computers in Our Future Center, located in Room 17 at the Schott Center, has been created to provide access to technology for the low-income community in Santa Barbara.

The CIOF Center offers a comprehensive, bilingual learning environment in which low-income adults and youth can acquire essential technology skills on their own schedule and at their own pace.

Additionally, there are youth hours between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. every day, during which the Center is reserved for the use of students aged under 18. For more information, call the Center at 898-8152.

The CIOF Center at the Wake Center is an open-entry program that provides assistance to those interested in acquiring or improving computer skills and to those seeking an office career. Bilingual instruction is individualized and self-paced. IBM-compatible Windows and Macintosh computers are available.

The CIOF Center provides:
Instruction in beginning and intermediate keyboarding
Word processing using MS Word for Windows
ESL Rosetta Stone software for practice;
Tutorials for most popular computer programs.

The CIOF Center is open mornings, afternoons and designated evenings. Students may attend at any time that fits their schedules. Time on computers may be limited, depending on demand.

Bilingual assistance in Spanish will be available at all times.
