California Community Colleges Student Success Task Force
Legislation enacted in 2010 called on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors to convene a task force with the purpose of developing a plan to bring about significant improvements in success rates of our students and to make community colleges more responsive to the needs of students and our economy.
In January 2011, the Student Success Task Force formed by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office began analyzing and discussing topics such as college readiness and assessment, student services, basic skills instruction and performance-based funding.
In September 2011 the Task Force released draft recommendations that are currently being vetted statewide.
The comprehensive plan to improve the Community College System's capacity to serve students includes the recommend that the System better focus on the core missions of workforce preparation and transfer.
In January 2012 the final report will be provided to the Board of Governors and subsequently presented to the Legislature no later than March 2012.
The recommendations will affect not only the credit divisions of California Community Colleges, but non-credit Continuing Education as well, especially those courses that are currently funded under Education Programs for Older Adults.
