Work Experience

I love my job as a career counselor! I decided to become one after I completed a few internships in career counseling. I attended SBCC, then I graduated from
Westmont  with a BA in Communications. My Master's degree is from Cal Lutheran University and worked at San Marcos High School for 10 years before coming to SBCC.  I teach General Work Experience 290 and provide career counseling to students.  I'm proud to be the mother of two, who keep me busy!  I love  hiking and camping with my husband and kids – we make a point to enjoy beautiful Santa Barbara!

 Career Center Q&A
What was your first job? Flamingo’s Frozen Yogurt on the Mesa.  I loved earning $4 an hour and the cool neon pink and turquoise “80s” uniforms.
What was one of your favorite jobs? Working at Memaw’s, gift shop. Local celebrity Jonathan Winters would stop by and do a stand up show for whoever was in the store!
What is your
dream job?
My job at the SBCC Career Center is my dream job!
What job would you be horrible at? I’d pull my hair out if I had to sit alone in a cubicle all day working on computers!
What did you want to be when you were little? When I was young, I wanted to be a singer and a dancer - like my daughter does now.
Why are you working at the Career Center? In college I did an internship at a high school career center. I found that I loved helping students discover their interests and strengths.
What was the best advice you received?  Internships lead to jobs!  Informational interviews, job shadows and internships are the most valuable experiences you can have as you search for a career.
