Choosing your major or career direction takes time and consideration. Whether you know where you're going or you're not sure where to start, the SBCC Career Center can help!

Resources With You, The Student, in Mind

Many at SBCC find their path by doing some personal assessment and career/major exploration online, with a counselor or with materials in the Career Center. Find answers to which occupational interest areas are the best fit for you, and what majors are practical in terms of finding a job that will support your desired lifestyle. 

  • Worksheets using the Holland Hexagram are available to help you Identify your interests that correspond to SBCC majors.

  • LINK to SBCC's Career Education majors, occupations, wages, and outlooks to see if one is right for you. 

  • Personal Development courses allow you to develop and organize a program of courses, co-curricular activities and use of support services to achieve desired career training, educational goals, life management skills and leadership skills. Personal Development courses begin with PD in the list of classes.

  • Feel free to make an appointment with a career counselor on a drop-in or appointment basis to discuss major and career options. Career counseling is available for currently enrolled and prospective SBCC students.  

  • Are you 25 years or older, returning to college or here for the first time? Contact us to find out about our support services to help students like you feel comfortable on a college campus.

  • What Can I Do with This Major?
    Use this website we subscribe to from the University of Tennessee to connect majors to career areas. It includes information on specific types of employers and strategies be successful for each area.

  • Assist.org
    Gain information on majors and prerequisites for Cal State and UC campuses.

  • Career Zone
    This career exploration program has a focus on California. Particularly check out the "Explore Industry Sectors" section with helpful filters and videos, and the assessments under "Discover Possibilities" (e.g. skills, interests, and work importance profilers).

  • CareerOneStop
    These videos are organized into 16 career clusters, or related types of work. You can select a category to view a list of videos related to that cluster.  Videos include career details such as tasks, work settings, education needed, and more.
