SBCC star chosen by Cincinnati Reds

SBCC pitcher Chris Joyce was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 19th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. He was the 595th pick overall.
Joyce, a 6-foot left-hander, earned All-American honors for the Vaqueros, who went 24-17, won the WSC North title and earned a Super Regional berth for the first time in school history.
He was the Pitcher of the Year for Southern California and the WSC North.
The former Dos Pueblos High star was 6-0 in the regular season with a 1.54 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 70 innings. He finished the year 7-1 with a 2.04 ERA and 114 strikeouts.
On March 10, Joyce fanned 16 Moorpark batters in eight innings.
This is the third time Joyce has been picked in the MLB Draft. He was a 10th-round selection of the Dodgers in 2008 and a 29th-round pick of the Colorado Rockies in 2010.
Kylin Turnbull, another left-handed pitching star for the Vaqueros, was a fourth-round pick of the Washington Nationals.
Turnbull and Joyce could continue their college careers. Turnbull is committed to Oregon State and Joyce got a scholarship from Cumberland, Tenn., the 2010 NAIA champion.
