Sophomore pitcher Joe McGrew has verbally commited to play baseball for UCSB in 2011, according to SBCC coach Teddy Warrecker.
The 6-foot-4 left-hander from Santa Monica went 2-3 last year with 39 strikeouts and 21 walks in 50 innings.
"He's worked really hard to improve his strength and conditioning to get to the next level," said Warrecker.
After playing the 2010 season for SBCC, McGrew will join current teammate and pitcher Zach Edgington on the Gaucho roster. Third baseman Abe Ruiz, a transfer from Arizona State, previously signed with Long Beach State and pitcher Ryan Gardner will transfer to Metro State in Colorado.
"It's a really good start as far as placement of our kids," noted Warrecker, who will begin his 10th season on Feb. 6 at Saddleback. "Getting guys to the next level is equally as important as winning games."
