Information for Out-Of-Area Students
In addition to DROP-IN TESTING, there are two Assessment options for Out-of-Area Students:
1) TESTING AND IN-PERSON ADVISING/REGISTRATION IN ONE TRIP: Students who wish to complete Assessment, in-person Academic Advising and Registration in one trip over a two or three day period should consult this list of suggested Testing/Advising/Registration dates for Spring 2012. This is the best option for Out-of-Area students. Not only will students be able to complete Assessment, Advising and Registration in one trip, they may also participate in a campus tour, look for housing, employment, etc.
2) ASSESSMENT DEFERRAL: If traveling to Santa Barbara presents a significant financial/personal hardship, students have the option to defer (postpone)
Assessment for one semester. Deferring math and/or English Assessment will temporarily clear your new student Assessment hold,
but you will be unable to register for math and/or English courses or courses with math and/or English prerequisites until
testing is completed. Students seeking to defer Assessment must download and submit the following REQUEST FOR ASSESSMENT DEFERRAL form. Students may either mail or fax their Deferral Requests to the Assessment Office.
Note: Once received, your request will be processed within two business days. You will not be individually notified that your
request has been approved, but you may check under the 'Registration' area of your Pipeline account to verify that your New
Student Assessment hold has been cleared. Students will only be individually notified via SBCC Pipeline email if their deferral
request is denied.
